Fun Learning In Summertime

Aug 11, 2022 | General

Have you heard the old joke, “That was like school in the summertime… no class.”? At Green Inspiration Academy (GIA) we can’t say that. This year our summer camp included academic lessons to help boost some of the students’ progress, with the added bonus of fun activities and field trips. Let’s share with you how our free public school for grades K-8 is super cool in the sizzling summer months.

Mixing Focus and Fun

Our very own Kyndl Oliver, Assistant Director of GIA, explains the brilliance behind our summer school/camp to strive for a better child, every day!

Summer School was designed to be a hybrid program this year. Students were to attend Summer School for the first portion of the day, and then they would move into Summer Camp for the second half of the day, following lunch. During Summer School, students would work with our licensed and professional teaching staff, in order to focus on academic progress in Math, Reading, and more. The academic purpose and expectation for the students was to bridge the gap in education that was created during the lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic and to keep student minds engaged and active for a smoother transition when returning to school in the fall. The overall goal and expectation of the program was to provide students an opportunity for continued academic growth and progress in core subject matters.”

So Many Activities!

Summer Camp activities were diverse and packed full of fun. Students were able to take:

  • Basketball Skills & Drills
  • Girl Spa Day
  • Wearable Art
  • Kung Fu
  • Cooking
  • Soapmaking
  • Minute-to-Win-It games

Other fun activities included:

  • Glow Dance Party (complete with local DJ)
  • Animal Show in which students could pet and learn about animals
  • Camper Karaoke
  • and so much more!

Can you believe we still made time for field trips for this amazing summer camp? Trips included:

Onward. Upward. Inspired!

Onward. Upward. Inspired! Is our slogan for a reason and this spirit carried through this summer. Miss Oliver continues to explain the importance of this carefully designed summer school for the students, and the educators.

“Not only were students coming in during their Summer Break, but so were the teachers and staff that they recognized. I believe the commitment made by both parties created an encouraging atmosphere.

For those teachers and staff members who were present throughout the summer, I know that they really showed a genuine commitment to the students and their families. That commitment even shows through them being willing to give up their own Summer Vacations in order to come into the school and work during their off time in order to give these students an opportunity to pull ahead and to continue reaching towards success.”

Families notice the difference too.

I chose GIA because it’s a charter school and not a public school. The small classrooms are a good learning experience for the students. The school curriculum is at a high learning scale for the students, and I love that as well. His academic growth has escalated since he’s been a student here at GIA for the past 3 years.” – Cierra Lovejoy, parent of Nicco, 3rd grade.

Is It Too Late to Enroll in GIA?

It’s not too late to choose Green Inspiration Academy for your school of choice in Fall 2022, but Miss Oliver would like everyone to get their applications in by August 10th. Students who were enrolled in GIA through Spring 2023 can apply for this amazing and effective Summer School late next spring. Miss Oliver explains the benefits very clearly for prospective parents.

I would tell prospective parents that the benefits of attending GIA’s Summer School Program would include the following:

1) A safe and familiar space to know that students are cared for an comfortable while parents are at work;

2) Opportunities for continued academic progress for students of all ages, and an opportunity to keep minds fresh and sharp for an easier transition back to school in the fall;

3) A fun and alternative Summer Learning Program- students work hard on academics for the first half of the day, and then have fun with games, activities, field trips and more during the second half of the day, which provides the students with something to look forward to each day, and an incentive to maintain good attendance.

Please don’t wait until the last minute to enroll your young children in school this fall. Our tuition-free public school for grades K-8 is a welcoming home away from home for our students, and we welcome you to join us. Onward. Upward. Inspired! Enrolling today!
